Whytecliff Engagement Session at Blue Hour

Katie and Sam's Engagement Session at Whytecliff Park: When life gives you broken down cars, make beautiful photos!

As a wedding photographer, I always try to be prepared for anything on a shoot. But even I wasn't ready for the curveball that Katie and Sam threw my way during their engagement session at Whytecliff Park in West Vancouver.

We had planned to arrive at the park in time for sunset, but on the way there, Sam's car broke down on the highway. Ironic timing, amiright? As we waited for a tow truck, it became clear that we were going to miss the sunset. Truly a photographer’s nightmare right?! Mmmm maybe not so much!

But as they say, when life gives you lemons, ya make lemonade! The blue hour light that followed sunset ended up being even better for photography than the sunset itself. It gave the photos a dreamy, ethereal vibe that really captured the spark these two have.

Despite the unexpected hiccup, their session was truly perfect. Katie and Sam were total troopers and we got some gorgeous photos. Plus, it's a funny story we can all look back on and laugh about. Hanging out with these two just solidified my excitement for their wedding day even more — I know it’s going to feel like photographing two new pals, which is all I could ever wish for in a client’s wedding! They really have such a natural connection that I feel absolutely honoured to document.

If you're a couple planning an engagement session, remember that sometimes the best laid plans can go awry. But if you can learn anything from these two cuties, as long as you have a good attitude (and a photographer bestie), you will still end up with stunning photos of your relationship that you'll treasure for a lifetime.
